Secret message

I first suspected I was pregnant one morning a little over four months ago while I was riding the bus to work. I just felt tired in a weird way. So I bought a pregnancy test at the Bartell's across the street from the library, took it in the office restroom, and voila! Two pink lines. When I got home, I took another pregnancy test. And another one. Which I decided would be best followed up by taking another one, and maybe just one more to verify the results. Many, many pink lines. I would line up all the tests and look at them as if they were ancient runes hiding some secret message.

All along the way, this whole experience has seemed slightly unreal to me. Not in a bad way--just in the sense that I was completely amazed and tearful and awestruck the first time I heard the baby's heartbeat. And the first time I saw the baby on ultrasound. Also every time I looked at the ultrasound pictures thereafter. Each confirmation that a someone is actually living in there has been a "holy crap" moment for me.

None more so than this morning, when Mr. A. held my hand while the ultrasound technician told us--and showed us--that TimJim really is a TimJim. Wow. We have a son.

CONGRATULATIONS!! This is fabulous news. I was so ready to suggest that you name your baby Tyra. Now, however, I think I prefer Tyrone, as a sort of masculine tribute to Tyra and all that she has meant to you and Mr. A. over the years.

Congratulations on your son-to-be! (Due to the parallelism of our lives, this confirms my suspicions that we, too, are having a boy, though we're waiting to find out until Baby is on the outside.)

Are you sticking with TimJim, or is that just your current code name? (We've been using Beartato, from the days when Baby still looked like the blob that is Beartato.)

Yay! In my head I had completely decided you were having a girl, no question, from 3000 miles away. Ah, nature.
If this was the Good Old Days you'd totally have been allowed to stay Queen (and keep your head), having produced the Royal Heir and all.

Oh! Oh! You having a son! Oh! Now I'm crying for you! I am just so excited about the road you've set out on...what a mad, mad adventure is ahead for your little family.
Le sigh. : ) k8

Thanks so much, you guys. I realize in a vague sort of way that there are really only two choices and it more or less has to be one thing or the other, but for some reason this news is blowing my mind. I think we will probably come up with a non-TimJim name--as beautiful a name as TimJim is. Possibly Tyrone.

K, Maybe the third thing I said to Mr. A after we got the news was, "Well, at least now you have an heir." Thank god our estate won't have to be entailed--we all know how THAT turns out.

So happy for you both! As someone who never imagined raising boys (who now has two), I can tell you that is is AWESOME! Boys rock!! And I will have so many adorable clothes to give little TimJim/Tyrone...yes, they do make (some) cute boy clothes--but you do have to turn over rocks to find stuff that doesn't make your son look like a jock/marine/young republican. But then you & Mr. A can just embroider 'n' stuff...

Huzzah for TimJim, who will, post-birth, be known as "Lucky Kid Born To Two Awesome People".

When you emailed me the news, there was more squealing in my office. You have made me quite the excitable lady these days!
